Education
My formal education includes degrees in Liberal Studies and Mathematics, magna cum laude, from CSU Channel Islands. Associate degrees in Spanish, Social & Behavioral Sciences, and Arts & Humanities were completed at Moorpark College. Teaching positions/courses include 9th Grade Math Honors, 9th, 8th, 7th, and 6th Grade Math, Business Skills, and 4th Grade.
Before public school teaching, I was a piano teacher for ten years and accompanied middle school choirs.
Teaching Philosophy: For distance learning, children must be introduced to new technologies with clarity and practice. Their confidence and enjoyment will grow for online classes. Lessons must appeal to kinesthetic learners as much as possible. Effective math learning includes discovery, succinct direct instruction with graphics and examples, whole class discussion, small group discussion (Zoom breakout rooms), differentiated practice with immediate and timely feedback (Canvas), manipulatives (sometimes homemade), technology, art, music and movement. CA State Standards should be reviewed in April for State testing in May. 12 x 12 math fact fluency is the foundation for success in middle school and high school mathematics. Math fact review and fluency should be continuous. Memorization of perfect squares to 20 and perfect cubes to 10 augments number sense.
Finally, Math is beautiful (https://www.popularmechanics.com/culture/a28710007/math-is-beautiful/) and food for the brain (https://www.cmich.edu/ess/oss/Documents/Prepare%20for%20Success%20d4.pdf).

Family
My husband Tim and I are parents of six children: five sons and a daughter.
Four are college graduates and employed. One is a college junior but taking a break to serve a philanthropic mission.
Our youngest is a senior at Thousand Oaks High School.
One of our children was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder. He is one of our college graduates.
Three have been tested as gifted, but actually all six are gifted like YOU🌟.
